Things To Do Before End of Year: Your Ultimate Guide

Welcome back my loves to a new blog. As every new year eve approaches , I ask myself about what are the essential things to do before the end of that year in order to set myself in the journey or new beautiful beginning. And then I followed some special inner work to set myself to the next stage of life with the beginning of the new year. As new year is approaching, it is time for the reflection, organize things and set stage up for another new fulfilling beginnings which oftentimes important aspects for our mental and physical wellbeing. Oftentimes there are many necessary things to do before the end of the year which i will organize in a structured and easy expressive way so that this guide helps you to improve your life too my beloved readers !!

The list is not long, I have collected 14 essential things to do before the end of this year in order to guide you to end this current year having feeling accomplished and will inspire you for the new year ahead.

Things To Do Before End Of Year

1. Reflect on the Highlights of The Current Year

In the weekend or a Saturday night, sit on a table for a few moments and spend some time there with pen and paper. Try writing or journaling by simply reflecting upon the memories you have made throughout this year, all the good events and memories and happiness, write them down. Which memories made this year very special for you, write it down too. Reflect upon your individual achievements and also friends, family or people who have made an impact on your this years journey. The goal is to make you sit in the table for resolution, not because of make you feel better alright? My goal is to show you the things that makes you or brings out the true happiness and joy in you by yourself. 

When you spend time with journaling and reflection the memories which made this year special and great for you it is a big positive experience too for yourself and inspiration for continuous self growth and also you will be inspired to lay a foundation for the upcoming self growth and self improvement. 

Tips from me: Try to organize or categorize the moments in different sections, for instance – relationship, personal growth, work/job, travel, me time , etc. 

2. Get prepared to Organize your Finances

There is a special reason for I have put this point into 2nd place. At the end of the year we mostly finished messing up all of our financial parts of our life. Before the end of the year i’d suggest you all to give a thorough dive and check into your finances. Look at your account balances from all the banks you created, if you have some credit card bill due , finish it, you dont wanna start a new year with debt. Focus on your credit score and credit card statements. Review the credit report and try to evaluate your savings goals. 

You might have some monthly subscription which you don’t need anymore. Give a thorough check and thoughts of what subscriptions to keep and what subscription to cancel for. I’d also suggest to you all my dear that make a goal for saving money each month from the beginning of the next new year and make a plan ahead of that, write a detailed plan of how much money you want to save each month, from where you can cut unnecessary expenses from your monthly expenses.
For instance if you want to save an extra 30 bucks per month/ week (depending on your likings and flexibility) and start making a regular savings habit each week or month from the beginning of the next month.

3. Organize your Personal space and let go of the Unnecessary

Ok so, it is time for organizing your everything. I mean from cleaning out every unnecessary things from your physical and mental space. Look at your closet , get through cleaning and removing old things and replace the unnecessary and unorganized items. Clear your desk and dressing table and drawers. Keep on the emphasis on creating a space which will make you feel open and pretty inviting for the next year. 

Organize your work space or if you have a desk job organize your desk , papers, emails, meetings and finished work files from your pc. Also I’d suggest removing unnecessary items from your phone and tabs too. Remove the old photos or duplicate ones that you don’t need, clean the junk file of your devices.

Trust me all will give fruition to your mental and physical wellbeings. 

4. Build a new Vision Board for the New Year

Visual display of your dreams brings you more closer, the more you put your thoughts into your dreams and aspirations the more it becomes into reality. So it is important to write and picture and draw down everything you dream for the next year and next phase of life in a board and prepare them for the next year obviously!! 

Collect the photos from magazines you love, collect the quotes from online or anywhere that resonates with you and your desires and goals. Also the things you wanna achieve for you in the next year.

While or when you will decide to work on this point number 4, I’d suggest you to turn on your favorite music and start on a day or a time when you have no other works or stress to deal with, just enjoy the moment and go through everything i wrote above in this part. And don’t forget to set up your vision board in a place where your eyes fall everyday, I hope you understand what I am talking about. I want you to see your vision board everyday even when you forgot to look at it. 

5. Evaluate, and Validate and Upgrade your Goals

Evaluate, and Validate and Upgrade your Goals at this stage of your to do list. Let me break it down for you my dears. So evaluate your goals for the future if they are resonating for you for the next year of next phase of your life at current time, then validate them according to your progress, ability and limitation. Then if needed you should upgrade your goals and add some more value into it by adding more much needed goals set into your next year timeline. No matter if the dreams consists of big or small ones, achievable or unreachable goals it does not matter write them in category-wise and install a mental balance or ide of balance in those written goals. This is how I wanna make sure you feel about your next year goals achievable and you got a winning chance to hit them all. 

6. Prioritize your health and health checkup

Talking about health, my favorite one, as Pharmacist myself I always emphasize on health checkup every single end of the year. Cuz in my view , the end of the year is the perfect time for this. Taking care of your healths is not a to do things, it is a must priority , throughout the year you have accumulated so much stress hormones in your body and so much unknown things in your body which you don’t even know, but after a thorough checkup you will be able to prioritize the necessary aspects and sects of your life which is a good a health. It is too much importance to do a check up on our body so that we can start our new year with new energy and new positive affirmation about ourselves that “ I am healthy” 

Ok so, make an appointment with your dentist, make another check up appointment with your eye doctor, go to general practitioner doctor for the general checkups. I guarantee you will not regret it even you will come back this article to thank me in the comments <3

So, after finishing this steps you will have a good peace of mind inside of you, because oftentime our self care small steps brings good energy to our mental and emotional wellbeings. I also almost forgot to mention about your blood test to be done. Check your white blood cell counts (which are our immune system boosters) , Red blood cell counts and so on, check the liver ALT/AST level, you will have a good idea about how much fat is in your body right now, weather you need to ad on some fat or reduce some fat from your body, you will have a good idea. You will be able to make a good diet chart for your current body health from the beginning of the new year. Add some minerals and plenty of water in your next year diet, and get more sunshine routine. 

There is a saying: A healthy mind lives inside a healthy body. When you are physically healthy , your mental health automatically gets better and better.

7. Time for Self-Reflect and Reconnection with Relationships

Every end of a year brings a new reflection and a need for reconnection on our relationships with other peers. End of the year is the best time for you to think about your friendships and relationships. This thing also goes for all your other personal connections. The connection and relationships which might have been forgotten and/or those, gradually fell into a sideways in the daily hustle and bustle of life!! 

Oftentime you feel to call them or visiting them but due to everyday busy schedule you then postpone, this is the perfect time and excuse to do so in the end of the year. Reconnecting to your acquaintances or friends and family members does not have to be necessarily big , impressive  or elaborated alright? Just a simple heartfelt message from you or sending them gifts or flowers. These small gestures go a long way. 

Take some moments to think about the people who have made an impact positively and added value into your life or made a difference. No matter how small it is, take note in points and let them know about it. This is not only a kind act but also it brings more fulfillment and joyful experiences in your life too. 

Here is some summarized tips for you : 

  • Prepare the list: Prepare the list of the persons to whom you need to reconnect with. Write their name and beside their name inside a bracket write down what gesture you want to show them for in the next year or on the eve of the year.
  • Message on social media: Ya, we all know that social media messages are shallow or not that much heartfelt often time but you know what , sometimes a direct message to them from you or a thoughtful words or even a photo of a handwritten note leaves a deep impact emotionally. 
  • Prepare for a group video call: Ya why not, if possible make a pre schedule for a video chat fix the time and date, then call them directly after making the above suggestions. Or go for a pizza date (or coffee) if possible. 

1 important thing to remember always. When you are doing these planning above i mentioned, make sure your words are very sincere and full of warmth. The relationships or connections you are reviving, can fill your life with utmost joy. It also gives both of you with the feeling of loved and cared , which is extremely joyful. 

8. Dedicate an entire day for yourself

Dedicate an entire day for yourself absolutely, which we call a “Me Day” usually. Our day to day life is so fast paced and so many hustling and bustling and schedules all around us. Amidst these moments we oftentime forget most important thing which is a much needed time for ourselves to recharge our mental battery and refocus on ourselves. A refreshing “Me Day” is a subtle gift which you can give to yourself. On this day allow yourself break free of routine and fixed appointments and do exactly what you love to do without any outside pressure or stress. A dedicated day for yourself only will be focused on nurturing yourself, your nourishment and your happiness. I don’t want to get fixated on things or items for you but you know what makes you happy. It could be simply having extra hours of sleep, reading your favorite book or watching your favorite series or going outside or going for a run to the woods. 

Take a break from year long everyday fast paced life and set back to become a calm individual for 1 day. Personally I call these self care things- a self respect day. Yeah it’s not selfishness, it’s all about self respect. How much you love and respect yourself. This self care day is positive element for our wellbeing. So that we can have the much needed energy and peace of mind to be our best self. 

Here is some small tips for you : 

  • Plan in advance: Of Course planning is everything, without planning you can not achieve this day on a instant. Plan about this day weeks ago so that you have everything you need today. It also makes a mental commitment to dedicate for this day. 
  • Prepare a warm and cozy personal environment: Our environment has a direct impact on our success. If your room is chaotic and not cozy , it will take you down and hold you back to achieve mental peace and clarity, so make the room cozy when you are planning for this day. Also keep your devices in airplane mode, so that you don’t get disturbed. 
  • Disconnect yourself from work and devices: As I mentioned earlier , disconnect from all of your devices. Don’t let your valuable time for this day be eaten by some other useless means. You can deactivate all of your social media accounts for this day in order to improve focus and achieve a quiet and peaceful mind. 
  • Prepare a self care list: You can get inspiration from my other article “ 30 day self care prompts” which i wrote in my blog, you don’t need to follow every points from there for 1 day, but you can take inspirations. Concise yourself into facial, spa, bath or doing gym, getting your nails done planning. You could do home exercise and also do journaling. 
  • You might do something creative: Creative pursuit often brings relaxation to mind and also inspiration. You can do so paining, drawing or indulge to yourself in  baking. You could try to cook your favourite dish. 

So, a dedicated personal day enhances our mental clarity and recharges ourselves. It helps to focused on nurturing yourself, your nourishment. 

9. Finish the unfinished business

Yes, we all do have some tasks which oftentimes fall out from our priority and we forget to finish or even start. These are a setback for your new year journey. Just make a list and wrap up those tasks. First write them down on a list Then break it down into small goals or small manageable steps. And immediately start towards finishing them. You can set a goal for finishing 1 at a time task each day or after every 3 or 4 days. Don’t forget to celebrate each finished task. And this is how you will feel the difference. Because as soon as the end of the year approaches to you, you will enjoy the unburdening feelings of those finished tasks. You will be filled with a sense of accomplishment and calmness and happiness. 

10. Prepare a budget for the Holiday Gifts

While the holiday seasons are coming also they are bringing the joyous moment and moment of gift giving. However, these joy can turn into nightmares or stressful events if it create pressure into our finances. So, by preparing a practical, realistic budget you can save yourself from this nightmare at the same time you will be respecting the generosity of yours and your finances. 

While some gifts are costly, thoughtful and meaningful gifts do not necessarily have to be costly. What feels more genuine and sincere is the matter not the price tag. You can be creative if you want, by crafting some DYI options that are customized for individuals and not that much costly. 

11. Prioritize to organize your digital life

Organizing digital life is hectic sometimes but it is necessary before starting the new year. It should not be complex, let me simplify it for you- 

Start with your email box, clean the spam folder and spam emails. Click all unread emails, if there is any important one you need to read then click it , otherwise delete them all, because afterall you might not need them after a year of unread situation. Check up your photos and clean if some photos are duplicate and dont need to stay, let go. Clean your desktop , make a folder for each items and make it looks more light and organized. Make differentiate the important and unimportant files folders from your pc and mobile devices. Unsubscribe or unfollow newsletter or channels that you did not watch or follow this year. You will gain more mental peace.

12. Time to give attention to your Professional Profile

Re Update your resume/cv if necessary , refresh it, add up to date photo and information into it. Refresh your LinkedIn profile too. Consider this act as a confidence boost for yourself, who knows a new job offer or better offer (if you are currently employed) might come to you from your newly refreshed Linked in profile which your potential employer might find interesting. It’s a fresh step forward to your future opportunities.  Add new skills that you have gained, add new project work you have done this year to your Cv and Linked in profile. 

13. Cultivate Gratitude Practicing

It will take more words to write about the importance and benefits of gratitude, i might write a full article about it later on, but for now , know that this is must needed habit to add on to your new year beginning. Be grateful for what you have instead of what you don’t, write them down or introspect them in your mind. Cuz end of the year is a perfect time for it and install this habits to carry forward yourself into the next year towards success.

14. Set a definite goal or task for the New Year

Set up a goal or task to yourself that you want to achieve in the next year. Preparing the mindset towards achieving it is important before starting doing it. This mindset will help you to focus on the things that you want to accomplish. 

Your goals should be focusing towards self love, self improvement , happiness, better health etc. Setting up goals is like a compass which drives us towards our goals. 

Ok so, we are about to finish, and with the final steps towards success and happiness you are not only creating a meaningful and successful ending this year but also building a strong foundation towards your future.
