How to Discover Yourself When You’re Lost

You know what? At any moment in life when you start to look for a solution like how to discover yourself when you’re lost, it means you are in the right direction of finding the things which you need. We all get lost in our life and it’s okay. Let’s find out why we suffer from this feeling of lost at first, – uncertainty, some significant life changing events, or feeling of disconnected from everyone, peer pressure or expectation from surrounding environment and people, or your desired for your self growth and so on – these are the common reasons when we feel like we are lost and need to do something to get back in the path to success and self growth by discovering our self. 

In this article I have crafted some easy to follow steps and guidance so that you can get back on your feet in no time and already on the way to your successful journey and you shall find more peace and purpose and optimism to continue move on in your life and keep being happy and successful.

Accept and Recognize Your Present Situation

Accepting and acknowledgement/ recognising your current going on situation is one of the first steps which I consider to back in the path to discover yourself. Often we ignore the fact that which state we are in right now, out of fear or procrastination but however when you accept that whatever feelings or emotions or conditions are you right now , whether it’s good or bad , accept and allow them to come to you. Then you will be able to see a clear picture of you and your pathway of which directions you have to go , which tasks you need to take at first to solve the problem etc. By becoming self aware by accepting problems, emotions and current situation, instead of pushing the problems away by ignoring wont solve the issue , rather it will make things worse, but by being aware of your condition, you will feel a sense or relieve and be able to write down problems and shorting them step by step will be much easier. You will be able to establish a good original connection with yourself immediately which will later be very helpful to discover yourself again. 

Find out what is missing from your life

Do you have any unfulfillment within you? Try to find out them. Let me be more clear about what I mean this. The moment in your life when you are feeling pretty lost , then chances are that there is a void within you which you overlooked and/or did not give thoughts in it. These voids could be unfulfilled emotional needs,or may be things you are passionate about, or even your life purpose or merely a deep connection with yourself. There has to be something which is missing from your life which only you know or can find out about, which is what I am trying to knock at your mind to remind you of this , so that in the next step you solve this problem and start to feel the fulfillment again and get back to yourself. Just slow down a little bit , reflect upon your life and be honest also ok? Be honest with yourself. Give attention to the areas in your life which are looking empty , may be self care, or nutrition – who knows, it could be the case. Or may be you are treating yourself harshly or punishing yourself for nothing or a past mistake, if so then stop and cultivate self love . May be your happiness scale is not balanced, or your inner peace is overlooked by you!! May be – just saying , may be you need to set up some boundaries around you to protect yourself from the negative and unhealthy individuals in your life!! 

Also it can be some dreams which you are now afraid to dream again, out of fear to be failed. Don’t be please, your life and you can go as bigger as your dreams, so always dream, dream big, if you shoot for something shoot for the moon !! Don’t be afraid to dream again ro dream big or bigger or biggest 🙂 !! Just give attention to what your heart truly needs. I did those again , when I lost myself, and yeah i’m back in myself in the road to happiness and peace again !!

Acknowledgement destroys arrogance and blindness which are negative things for achieving happiness and inner peace. Inner reflection, finding out missing pieces in life puts you in a powerful position in your life for yourself. It is healthy for your journey of self discovery. And also keep remember that dont rush into this, take it slowly and with ease. 

Establish Connection with your Core Values

We all have some values.  Some are common values and few are only unique to us. Both types of values are core to us. Establish or reestablish a connection to those values. Let me make it more easy to understand. Ask yourself, who are you in your core? What are the things that matter in your life? Which qualities do you cherish most? Is it kindness, creativity, being social, or being alone or being helpful or investing in learning new skills for self growth? Or traveling? Or Independency? So, when you are feeling of lost, these core values are the answer and initial steps towards discovering your own self when you are lost. 

You will be connecting yourself much more easily by being authentic and true to yourself. And finding out true values and accepting, cultivating , nurturing them will help you to be a more authentic and true person which you are proud of. Additionally, by finding out your true core values you will be able to re-discover your life’s purpose and will be driven passionately towards achieving it. You will see how it feels much easier to become more stronger and resilient in your life. You will be feeling more happy and fulfilling. 

Explore The Things That Brings You Joy

Being Joyful and happiness is  tremendous positive factor to get back in yourself when you are lost, cuz happiness and being excited about something we love is the truly incentivize our motivation to be back in ourself after being loss. The moments which brings you joy and happiness, the activities, sports, travelling, spending time with nearest and dearest ones, spending exciting time will make you forget the feeling of loss and negative influences. So when you are lost , or we are lost, we are in peer pressure into our daily activities, responsibilities and mundane routines, but remembering the things which makes us joy and then later on exploring them is a great tool to ignite passion and happiness from within you. You will be reminded of the things which makes you complete and you will be back with yourself with ease. 

Build A Boundaries To Protect Your Inner Peace

Another important step in my view to the journey of re discovering yourself when you are feeling lost is to set up / building a boundaries around you to protect your inner peace and energy. Cuz by building up a boundaries you can find an emotional space and inner security to reconnect yourself easily. Also unnecessary dramas and lies will be deflected by your boundaries which will further fortify your journey. We do have toxic relationships in many aspects of life, either could be friends, or amongst family even, the huge demand/ unusual expectations from society, which are external influence which i would like to call them- mainly try to dictate your life, and then you become lost of who you are and life becomes depressed and start to go down the line. 

But setting up boundaries, limitations, practising the habit of saying no will not only protect you but also help you to sustain in this life easily and you will start to hear your inner voice again. Also keep in mind and don’t misunderstand me , setting up boundaries does not mean you will shut yourself from the outside world, no i did not mean that. Just find out which environment or factors are draining your energy and bringing the worst from you. Say no without feeling any guilt, slow down a little bit and be communicative with your needs and necessities rather than being silent about it. I believe, in no time you will be back to yourself. 

Daily Gratitude & Everyday Reflection Practice

Practicing gratitude and reflection at the same time is a very powerful discipline and tools to discover yourself after being lost in life. Gratitude practice is so important that you will see many blessings, abundance and opportunities around you rather than shortcomings and things that don’t matter. And by self reflection or simply reflecting to your inner self in alone time will help you to connect with your emotions, intellectual self and your aspiration. You should commit yourself for everyday in order to able to reflect and daily gratitude practice and when you are able to do so and incorporate them in your life, you will easily discover and clearly see what Just be grateful for simple, insignificant and even for nothing , and see how life’s bounty unfolds in front of you !! 

7. Overcome your Limiting Beliefs

You have to overcome your limiting and shallow and narrow belief system from your core of brain, yes i know its hard but trust me it is for your own benefit. It is one of the reason why you have lost your own self in the first place ! Limiting beliefs are negative things, these are all your negative thoughts which you tend to see always and which in your head starts with the phrase – “what if …. “   ,  change your perception of life. Dont be afraid and dont think of what if goes wrong or something like that. Your limiting and narrow belief system is self harming weapons which has a devastating effect on our life. Yes i have seen lot of consequences of limiting and narrow belief and thinking in my life from my friends and closest ones. But after overcoming these things they are happy and so much successful in their life, so why don’t you, why won’t you! Yes you can. 

Give attention to the thinking pattern which holds you back and brings negativity. Remove them. Add positive phrases in your life, Keep building good relationships with GOD. Forgive yourself and be kind to yourself, cuz you are so much loved by GOD without even realizing. Replace negative thoughts and beliefs with positive affirmations and love of GOD. Look at the sky , look at beyond the sky, is it not infinite? So why won’t you confine your brain and soul in limiting belief!! 

Go to Nature and re establish connection with it

Nature is the best healer, like I wrote in the last line in the previous point, if you want to see and look at the vast sky and in the horizon, you have to go to nature to be able to experience the fullest. Go hiking in the mountains, park or lakes, do some camping, walk in the soil and grass without shoes. The sound of nature, the smells of the grass, birds, and breeze and flowers, their colors , fragrances, animals and wild lives- we all are connected , how can you lose yourself when everything is there for you!! 

Get Out of Your Comfort Zone

Growth and improvement never comes in life from being in a comfort zone. We must get out of our comfort zone in order to grow and thrive thus making connections with ourselves. In life when we feel lost direction, amongst many reasons , the comfort zone is responsible for that. Cuz our comfort zone limits our belief and expectations and ability to dream big. Facing new challenges unlock many of our hidden quality and capability which are vital for self growth. So , try to do something which you have never done before. Go travel alone in places you never went, learn new skills, face your fears, delete procrastinations and laziness. These things will eventually expand your vision and mind. You will rediscover your strength and capability in this way. 

Accept and Explore your Inner Child Spirit

Your inner child has answers to a lot of things about yourself, revisit your childhood places, re ignite childhood hobbies and engage into them. It could be painting, sports, or storytelling. Exploring and accepting the inner child is a beautiful way to emotional healing , joyful moments and rediscovering your inner self. It will help your overall mental and emotional growth and life success. You will be reminded of a lot of positive things by pure joy and excitement in your life from your inner child spirit. 

After establishing connection with your inner child, you will see that it has become much easier for you to focus on present, abundance.

Focus on Things which are within your control

It is an overwhelming feeling and emotions when some challenges appears and those are beyond your control, then you lost connection with yourself. Switch your mindset from this hopelessness and despair condition towards empowerment. Rationalize your everyday and focus on the matters which are within your reach and in your control. Which things are easily manageable from your side. And forget the rest. The sense of calm and inner peace will be flowing through you.
It’s easy to feel lost when we’re caught up in situations or challenges beyond our control. 

Stay Close to those who supports you

People who support you are the one to keep with you in times of despair and loss. They are the reminder for you that you are not alone in your journey. It will relieve the pressure and stress off from your brain and mind. Also sharing your feelings and burdens with trustworthy closest ones who support you no matter what- is relief of stress and having proper feedback , guidance from them which are honest. Also you will have a mental clarity of your journey to find yourself while doing so. You will see life from different perspectives and re-discover your passions and things which make you happy. Likewise if you stay close to the people who support you, they will push you to your growth and success and to discover yourself when you are lost. It’s just a reminder that you are not alone and you are valued and loved in your journey. 

Final Thoughts

Yes, that’s it, congratulations to you, now you are ready to pursue your life’s passion without any more confusion cuz now you know how to discover yourself when you are lost. I tried to guide you in a way so that it becomes easy to follow. And remember , don’t give up and don’t take too much pressure while following these steps. It is a marathon not a sprint race. You need patience and kindness in this journey. Self discovery and stuff like that is not all about finding every answer of unanswered questions, it is about going through the process and reconnecting with your core values. Understand yourself in deeper level about which things make you happy which things you are passionate about and so on. 

At the same time this self discovery journey demands you to get out of your comfort zone in order to succeed. Celebrate small wins throughout the path. Remember, you are not alone. You are always supported , loved and cared for.
